[SKYBOX VR] Quest v1.1.7: Added Giant Screen theater, USB support and more

We're pleased to announce that SKYBOX Quest v1.1.7 is now available for all users. Not only does it bring the Giant Screen theater environment, it also comes with the USB support and other enhancements.

What's new in v1.1.7:

Added Giant Screen theater environment
Supported viewing files on USB flash drives
Supported adjusting image display time
Added Anti-Aliasing and Sharpness option
Optimized Pro-HD Quality feature
Fixed the playback problem when using certain Bluetooth earphones

SKYBOX supports FAT32, exFAT and NTFS format. After plugging a USB flash drive to your Meta Quest device, you will be able to access your USB drive in "USB Files" channel.

In Global Settings, you can set the image display time to your preference. If you want to make blurry images/videos clearer, you can turn on "Anti-Aliasing" and "Sharpness" options.

You will also find the "Show Thumbnails" option in Global Settings. After turning it off, SKYBOX will not load thumbnails for all your videos and images.

In v1.1.7, you can change "Height" and "Scale" settings after turning on "Pro-HD Quality". Also, you are allowed to turn on "Passthrough" and "Pro-HD Quality" at the same time.

Lucy Hi. I can’t see the update for this in my quest. I have a quest 1. I’ve read that the last update would be 1.1.4, but I have had other updates after this. My quest is currently on 1.1.6. With it featuring bugfixes for Bluetooth, I thought it might be for the quest 1. Please can you help. I would really like to be able to play from USB flash drive

Hello, HFS+ does not work. The headset itself does not see the flash drive and is also not displayed in the Skybox application.

Apologies for the inconvenience! Just confirmed with our developer, SKYBOX doesn't support HFS+ format now. You can try FAT32, exFAT and NTFS format. If you have other problems, please let us know. We'll keep optimizing the app.

I have a movie in MKV format, it weighs 31 GB and cannot be opened from a flash drive. Long loading times and dark screen.

UPD: After a long time, the picture loaded, but the buffering speed was very low.
Reading speed of the flash drive is 150 MB/sec

If possible, we hope you can send us the Info level logs. We'd like to check the logs to further investigate the issue and try to fix it in the next update.

On your Quest, you just need to click SKYBOX's Global Settings, change the Logging Levels to "Info", reproduce the issue, then click the BUG icon in the upper-right corner of Global Settings, and send us a bug report attached with logs(tick the "upload logs" box).

Besides, could you please try to play the MKV file via SMB or DLNA and see if the buffering issue still remains?

Love the new update, lots of great new features. I was just thinking the other day that i wish Skybox had a sharpness feature, and now i have it.

Also this update makes the Pro-HD Quality feature useable as i can now change the scale - Awesome !

And what's not to like about Flash Drive support, still to test this out though - Is there a limit to drive size ?

Also does the feature support external hard drives ?

Hi, I was able to watch this movie by connecting a USB flash drive to a Macbook Pro 2016 and launching your application Skybox VR Player 1.1.5
The movie was broadcast to the headset from a flash drive via wi-fi.

Thanks for sharing with us the logs!

There might be some performance issues with our exFAT support. We will optimize it in future updates.

You can click SKYBOX's "Global Settings" > scroll down > turn off "Show thumbnails" and see if it helps. You can also try using NTFS or FAT file system.

With this update the frame rate seems off, non of my VR movies run well in general and don't look as good as a competitor player, but every 30 seconds or so it randomly glitches and pauses as if buffering and then plays fine again, only for 1/4 of a second but still annoying.

I've tried turning off all the high quality settings but it still looks rough.

I'm on Quest 2 and never had this issue previously.

In addition, you can follow the steps to roll back to previous versions temporarily.

On Quest store, login your Meta account, find SKYBOX VR Video Player, scroll down the page, then you will find "Version", please click the dropdown menu to select "v1.1.6 Release: 1.1.6".

On your Quest, find SKYBOX VR Player in your App Library, click the three dots on the upper-right corner of SKYBOX. Then you will find the Update button. Just click it and wait for the installation.

Hi, after updating to 1.1.7 Skybox won't read .srt subtitles anymore. I had no problem on 1.1.6 but in 1.1.7 through my network harddrive, Skybox won't load the subtitles, even if they are placed in the same folder as the video and they have the same name. I checked files previously working.
Please fix this, I couldn't enjoy my movie night tonight 🙁

I just temporarily roll back to v1.1.6 and confirmed that v1.1.7 is sluggish on scrolling file list. But v1.1.6 doesn't have this kind of problem.

I am very glad to meet USB OTG funciton.

I tried USB OTG funciton with belkin use-hub + sd card + path-through power supply usb-c connection, because I want power supply when I watch movie via usb otg service.
But Meta Quest 3 (Sky box) does not support belkin usb hub. It show error code and request format of sd card(exFat). But above connection to LG Gram notebook works well.

If you can not fix this issue, please forward to meta quest development team.
Many people needs power supply when they use usb-otg service if they want several movies long time.

I think meta quest 3, sky box, belkin are all famous and good company
and expect to solve this problem.

I tried it with USB-HUB Baseus and it works for me. It's specifically about your HUB or flash drive.

(On Quest 3) Version 1.1.7 is very unstable.
When playing over a network via SMB, if quickly move to the next file while seeking for a file, the app frequently crashes. Likewise, when playing a high bitrate file via SMB, a frame drop occurs after 2 to 3 seconds and the video stutters tremendously. (avc codec, about 60Mbps)
(After rolling back to version 1.1.6, it plays comfortably without crashes or interruptions.)
