  • [SKYBOX VR] Quest Beta v1.0.4 Release: Here Comes the Hand Tracking

Today's update is fire! This is even better than I suggested, in theory, there will definitely be no false positives. Just one request - add a reset of the application center (and a cold beer) to the mini-bar)

We just released a new version which has the mini bar beside the hands.
On the mini bar you would find an icon "No Pinch/Allow Pinch": Point the icon to disable ‘pinch’ function of your hands which prevents calling up the interface by accident. Point the icon again to allow ‘pinch’.

Let us know if it works for you.

Hand Skip Forward / Rewind feature is available in beta testing now.
      Please have a try!

maybe then it makes sense to still show the time, battery charge and the progress of the movie in this mini-bar? Still, important information, you often have to look at it.

We are struggling with adding more infos on the mini-bar because there are limited room for displaying information there. So right now we are keeping the most used ones on the mini-bar.

However, we will see how we could improve the mini-bar and keep optimizing it in the future release.

We appreciate your patience very much.

The mini-bar and the pinch toggle are really great additions! It's already working quite well.

Personally, I think that the video's elapsed time/total time would be very useful information in the mini-bar.

Hept +1 to this comment. I think it would be really nice to turn off rendering of your hands (just like you can turn off pinch/clicks). Perhaps this could be a toggle in the minibar as well. The only problem I see is that the user would have to be educated on how to bring the hands back so they aren't stuck. Perhaps the app could create a gesture for that and remind the user each time they turn off hands how to get them back.

Hi! Had a weird experience with the new setting to disable hand tracking.

I put on my headset and used hand tracking to set up the guardian and navigate the oculus UI to launch skybox. Upon launch, my hands disappear. If I look at my palms I still saw the oculus button in my right hand and context menu on my left and was able to trigger them. But my hands were invisible and I couldn’t interact with the skybox ui.

I had to find my controllers (and some new batteries…) to go to the skybox settings page and enable the new hand tracking setting, which was set to off.

Exactly the same experience for me too (apart from the batteries) :o)

                    Hi there,

In order to let users choose to use hand tracking in SKYBOX or not, we added the option to turn on "In-App Hand Tracking" inside SKYBOX in the latest beta release.
And the default option for the setting is "OFF", so that new users would not use hand tracking to trigger anything by accident.

However, we cannot turn off the hand tracking entirely (that's why you guys see the Oculus button).

As long as you keep the setting "ON", then you should have the same experience as previous beta release.

We will keep improving the hand tracking experience in the future release. Any suggestions would be highly appreciated :)

Hi, I'm new to the beta. Hand tracking has been working normally. It did take me a while to figure out I had to turn on the feature in settings, But I can see that is something that is needed for user choice.
                      A few suggestions:
Minibar Icon should match the brightness of the FB Icons, or be a lower brightness than it currently is.
I would like to see the minibar icon be located in the center of the palm. If possible I think it would be cool to use the Skybox logo as the icon.
We need some way of easily recentering the view with hand tracking. I often run with guardian disabled and every once in a while I have to recenter my view after loading Skybox. Maybe the left menu button could be repurposed to be a shortcut to recenter?
Overall it's a pleasant hand tracking experience and functional
                      Keep up the good work!

                        Thanks for the feedback.

Minibar Icon should match the brightness of the FB Icons, or be a lower brightness than it currently is.

By FB icons, you mean those in the Oculus library?

I would like to see the minibar icon be located in the center of the palm. If possible I think it would be cool to use the Skybox logo as the icon.

Tested it and it is not working as the same as we wanted it.

We need some way of easily recentering the view with hand tracking.

Will def add this feature in the future release.

                        Cheers!

My quest 2 app updated and the “disable pinch” button when using hand tracking dissappeared!

                            What happened?!?

                              Hello!

Please place your left hand palm facing your face, pinch your thumb and index finger together when the "Menu" button appears. When the hand image gets lighter, then you've disabled the pinch feature.

To turn it on, just pinch your fingers and wait for the hand image gets clearer / whiter.

Let us know if you have any other questions.

                              Best regards,

                                Hello!

Are you using version 1.0.5 or beta version 1.1.0?

You can click "Global Setting" (⚙️) or fast click "CHANNELS" for five times to check the version number.

If you are using version 1.0.5, please restart the app on your Quest 2 to see if it helps.

Let us know if the problem still remains.

                                Best regards,
                                Lucy

Hello really like the hand tracking feature. Definitely a game changer, the only thing wrong with it is, it is still to inconvenient to stop pinch, I know you can bring up mini bar but I feel like that is still a little cumbersome. The app immersed has a great way to quickly turn hands on off which is you face hands towards cameras and pinch the ring finger and thumb. Works like a charm.

How do I zoom in and out of videos (adjust screen size) with hand tracking?
