  • [SKYBOX VR] Quest Beta v1.0.4 Release: Here Comes the Hand Tracking

We just released Quest beta v1.0.4(369).

Here is what's new in this version:
[New Feature] Hand Tracking (Select, Scroll, Drag Screen and Exit)
[Advanced Setting] VR Video Rotation -90°/0°/90°/180°


To support hand tracking in SKYBOX, please make sure the hand tracking function is activated in your device.

And below are “what for” and “how to” of different hand gestures:
Select: Pinch your thumb and finger together to click
Scroll: Move your hand while pinching to scroll
Drag Screen: Move your hand while pinching to drag the screen
Exit: Left palm at eye level, pinch until the Menu icon fills up, then release.

[New Feature] Hand Tracking Mini Bar During Video Playback

Here’s how to open the mini bar:
When you’re playing the videos, please open your palms and use your index finger to point the icon beside to unfold the mini control bar.

And below’s “what for” of each icon on mini bar:
Play/Pause: Point the icon to play/pause/replay the video.
Forward/Rewind: Point the icons to fast forward and rewind the video.
Allow Pinch / No Pinch: Point the icon to disable ‘pinch’ function of your hands which prevents calling up the interface by accident. Point the icon again to allow ‘pinch’.
Exit: Press the exit icon to go back to the SKYBOX main hall.

We just released Quest beta v1.0.4(384).

In the new version, we added the option of In-App Hand Tracking in the Global Setting.
You could open the Global Setting in the main hall. The gear icon is just next to the time and battery.

We plan to continually improve hand tracking in the next few Beta releases. Please feel free to share with us your feedbacks and thoughts!

      The hand tracking experience has been great so far, but I've noticed a slight issue while watching the cursor and hands are visible so it's a little bit distracting especially when your hands are resting on your legs, maybe only showing the hands and cursor when you're in media control and hiding them when the media control isn't visible.

        Does this have the ability to use hands to skip forward (and I suppose skip back, pause, play) while watching the video?
        This was the feature I was waiting for, so could watch movies without controller and fast forward with hands.

          yes, you can already do everything without controllers, except for centering the screen

              Pavel419 Hi there, very helpful info shared! Thank you! We will continue to update "hand tracking" in our next few beta releases. We plan to improve the hand tracking experience by reducing the mistouches and adding support for functions like "fast forward/backward", "recenter", "play/pause" using hand gestures. Please feel free to share any of your suggestion or feedback regarding hand tracking!

                  Nice feature !
                  As you sayed, some gestures could be interesting, like fast forward and backward, and play/pause.
                  Since this release, i see projection of controller, even when you are not in media control. So the right and left controllers are visible during media playing.
                  As sayed Hept, I think hiding hands/controller when media control is not visible could be very nice !

                    All I want is skip forward.

                    Well known gesture for that, swipe right hand to the left.

                      We tried adding "swipe right hand to the left" but it could easily call up the interface by accident.
                      Currently we are working on other solution to control the skip forward with hand tracking.
                      It will be released in beta next week.

                          Yeah I don't like it at all at present. Is there a way to disable hand tracking? If not, please make sure that is an option.

                            Which part do you feel "don't like it at all" please?
                            We are working on the improvements and we'd love to hear the feedback.

                                when is the new version already there?

                                  So far, I'm loving the hand tracking, the only issue I've found is, while watching a video, the player controls randomly appear I've made sure my hands are out of view, even putting them behind me, but it still pops up, I then have to pinch/click the screen to get it to disappear.
                                  Great App though.

                                    Today's update is fire! This is even better than I suggested, in theory, there will definitely be no false positives. Just one request - add a reset of the application center (and a cold beer) to the mini-bar)

                                      We just released a new version which has the mini bar beside the hands.
                                      On the mini bar you would find an icon "No Pinch/Allow Pinch": Point the icon to disable ‘pinch’ function of your hands which prevents calling up the interface by accident. Point the icon again to allow ‘pinch’.

                                          Please have a try!

                                              maybe then it makes sense to still show the time, battery charge and the progress of the movie in this mini-bar? Still, important information, you often have to look at it.

                                                We are struggling with adding more infos on the mini-bar because there are limited room for displaying information there. So right now we are keeping the most used ones on the mini-bar.

                                                However, we will see how we could improve the mini-bar and keep optimizing it in the future release.
