Maybe there could be a way to simply pick an older version to use? that way you won't have to adjust anything in the new one if you don't want to?

    Hi there,

First of all, even though the app itself looks identical across Rift and Quest platform, deep down the codec is very different.
Simply stated, the function would be slightly different because we are using two different methods on the two platforms.

Quest version is NOT an updated version for Rift. They are managed and developed separately.

So it's either skipping more than 3 or less than 3 just to reach that certain mark each time you go backwards

The reason for this is that on Quest version we are seeking for the key i-frame and on Rift version we are seeking the exact frame you are looking for.
Here's the explanation on the two frame: https://ottverse.com/i-p-b-frames-idr-keyframes-differences-usecases/

it seems that going backwards make your subtitles disappear until you once again go backwards to make them re-appear.

Would you mind sending us a video with the subtitle file that has the issue you mentioned?
Email us at support@skybox.xyz so we could test it and see what's going on.

Right now we are making some major changes on Quest version and you are highly welcomed to post your requests on the suggestion board on our roadmap: https://trello.com/b/l35tWsgf/skybox-vr-video-player-roadmap

    Cheers.

Yum Hey Yum, thanks for taking the time to answer my questions/issues.

I understand better now the difference in the two apps, they aren't really different versions, because of the different platforms.

Yum The reason for this is that on Quest version we are seeking for the key i-frame and on Rift version we are seeking the exact frame you are looking for.

*You're saying because of how Quest works, it's impossible to make the backwards seek the exact frame? it can only be key i-frame? that's horrible design by Oculus then, just horrible. I truly hate it working like that. Hopefully in the future you'll be able to find a work around if possible. If so, I'll greatly appreciate it!

*As far as the subtitles issue. I wouldn't mind sending it to you at all, just know that in general it has happened to me in all videos/movies I've watched with different subtitles files. I'll send you something when I get home later today.

      Will do, thanks!

I will just add a couple more things:

      1) I'm glad that at least, while it's not wireless, I can still use the SkyBox Rift version via PC Link with my Quest, that way I can enjoy what I believe to be the much better "App".

      2) I've tried to watch a movie yesterday, Matrix [1999, Remastered version, 1080p], I'll remind you I'm new to the Quest 2., and it stuttered. As if it has a little bit of a slow down while playing. I found it odd so I tried a number of movies out to see if it's only that one or overall, and some of them and TV show episodes, it worked fine like I was used to. But I noticed some others stuttered too.

So I went to the Rift app version with the Cable Link to test the same movies, like the Matrix, I've had issues with and it worked smoothly and fine on it. So I believe it's simply the Quest App itself that's the problem.

We will make sure that this feature is included in the Quest version with major changes.

        Subtitle issue

Would you please share us a record video so we could check if the issue is the one that we have identified?
And please also share with us the video file so we could test it. Thank you.

        Stutter with Matrix

Would you mind share with us the link to download the file? And are you watching it via SMB/DLNA or from Quest local storage please?
        We haven't received similar feedback...

          AMAZING!!!!! Thank you so much!!

I forgot to send a video file, my bad. Although I'll say again, it happened to me with all videos... can I send you a torrent link to an episode of a show it happened on? https://rarbgto.org/torrent/tyzoqhl - any one of those episodes on the season and all the movies and other shows I tried as well, it happened.

Yum Stutter Matrix- Would you mind share with us the link to download the file? And are you watching it via SMB/DLNA or from Quest local storage please? -

Of course, this is the link - https://rarbgto.org/torrent/t6q7rcy of a torrent I got it from.

And it was on the Quest storage wireless when I had those issues that made it unwatchable.

When I did the test with the cable link and the file worked well with the Rift version, then the video was located in my Computer, not Quest storage.

We downloaded the file and are testing the video now.
            Appreciate your patience very much.

We have downloaded the videos but none of them has the subtitles? Would you be specific on which version did you download?

Confirmed that this video indeed has some stuttering issue. Our engineers are looking into it.

Thank you for your patience and support.

Yum We have downloaded the videos but none of them has the subtitles? Would you be specific on which version did you download?

Oh, sorry to create a confusion. The torrent I gave you is the version I watched. - I think I misled you to believe the issue is with a built-in Subtitles? I downloaded the Subtitles from a website.

All the issues I've had with subtitles were the non built-in types on any movie or episode of a TV show that I watched. When going backwards, it would every few backwards just not show the subtitles anymore until you would go backwards again, then it would reappear.

                Happy to help!
Here's another one I've seen this with. A Knights Tale (2001) - the stuttering made it unwatchable for me on those movies. But as I said, if I watch those movies on the Rift version of SkyBox/off my PC with cable link to the Quest 2 - it works 100% fine.

Then you would mind sharing with us an external subtitle which has this issue?
                  Yes I was misunderstood...

Thanks for sending the other file.
During the testing we found that the issue is on Android platform only. Many other players which are available on Android have the same issue too.
                  Weird.
It might take us a few days to check the issue.

Gotcha, strange that it happens indeed. Hopefully it's fixable.
