Unfortunately a recent Oculus OS update (v26?) removed the USB drivers for both OTG drives and ethernet.
The developer of Virtual Desktop reached out to John Charmak over Twitter and John said he'd ask the team about ethernet's removal, but no word on that or drive support ever coming back.
It's possible it's a partition size limitation and those drivers had to be removed to make room for other features on an otherwise un-resizeable system partition. Also, some OTG drives could request too much power port from your headset and fry one or both sides of your type c port, which would be no good. (Seriously, it does happen)
My Samsung T5 SSD used to work on my Quest 1 and 2, but an update made them stop working. The Quest never supported ExFat, though, so files maxed out at like 4gb... So, even when it did work, it kinda didn't.
Personally, I have a 2TB SSD connected to a Raspberry Pi 4 hosting a Jellyfin and SMB server, it even hosts it's own network, all it needs is power over Type C. You could try setting something like that up.
