Quest Beta v1.0.2 available for testing with support to search SMB IP address

Hi friends,

We released Quest beta v1.0.2(311) on Mar. 1st.

Here is the list of what's been added to this new version:
[Bug Fixed] Fixed crash issues and connection errors when using SMB or DLNA
[Bug Fixed] Fixed SMB cannot remember username and password
[New Feature] Support SMBv3
[New Feature] Support Manually Input SMB IP Address (In "Network" tab, find the add icon in the upper right corner to manually add your SMB server)
[Optimization] Optimized the B/Y Button Functionality of "Return/Cancel"

This version should fix all SMB/DLNA related issues (that's what we expected).

another Question to Yum

Im not sure, that I updated to the right develop-version of Skybox. - My App shows Version 1.0.2 without (311) and release-date: 20192105 (translated to english date-format)

Is there some sort of notation needed for putting in the IP Address? I have yet to be able to manually add a server, even trying from the same subnet (while being able to see the server auto discovered) I tried using "xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx" (x's being IP address) "smb://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx" and "hostname" the later two I get a "server not found" when trying - despite being able to connect to it from the browser without issue. Hopefully I'm just doing something wrong!

I am also unable to enter a username and password, I disabled authentication on the smb server to see if that would allow connection but no difference.

Same here. - If I only enter the IP, I get a "Network Error". - If I enter my IP with smb://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx I get a "server not found" error.

Even like NoBloodyABCorD I cant enter my Username und Password, because the fields are greyed out.

In Pigasus VR Media Player my smb-Connection to this server works fine, but I prefere Skybox because the nice User Interface and no issues during playing movies.

So it will be cool, if you fix this bug.

Maybe an smb secure issue, because other smb-Connections from my raid station and Fritz-Box are well found and accessable.

My Hardware: iMac Catalina, Vers. 10.15.7

I emailed Yum and got this:
Hi there,

After input the IP address, click OK and SKYBOX will try to coonect The server address you input. If you are not able to connect, what error message do you see please?

If you still encounter the issue, please
send the log file Android/Data/xyz.skybox.player/Files/PersistentData/OutLogs.txt and SKYBOX/SKYBOX_debug_log.txt to me so we could study what's going wrong.

After work today I'll try to set back up and send the logs. I have an UnRaid server and running this on the Oculus Quest 2

sharky1000 Based on the log I got, I'm showing auth failure as the app is trying to log in using "anonymous" and "password". If you check your logs you might see the same thing.

I think all I need is to be able to input my credentials in the manual entry window and I'll be all set!

sharky1000 As a test, I created an account "anonymous" with password "password" and that worked, but there's no option afterwards to change the credentials so it's not much of a workaround, lol.

Another small issue, but not very imporant to fix: If you are in the connection search-screen, focus an selection-button and you drop out (with the oculus-button) to the oculus menue, you will still see a white dot on this button. - On some Oculus positions it looks like the dot is sending a white laser-beam direct to your eye. - I tried to screen capture this, but it is impossible, because the white line to your eyes will not show up in the screen mirroring.

My suggest is that the version we are using still don‘t support SMB V. 3.0. - My SMB 1.x shares from other devices are detected and shown off during network-scan fine.

Starting from v1.0.2, SKYBOX supports SMBv3. We tested it with Windows and Mac in the office.
Would you please try the v1.0.2(315) version to see if it fixes your issue?

Meanwhile, how do you set up the SMB please? Is it the "Sharing" on Mac system?

Hi Yum,

thank you so much for your update.

With this update my iMac smb connection was found during the scan and the login works fine.

Now I’m realy happy to continue to use the best VR Videoplayer for the Quest on the market 😀👍

Let me guess, the issue was smb 3.0?

We fixed some minor issues but I'm not an engineer myself so I wouldn't point out which results your issue before...

Hello, i am currently testing the beta version to access files on my Win10 machine via SMB. I do have a collection folder for music videos which contains symbolic links to actual files (and folders) on different drives. These links work fine while playing them on PC and also using SkyBox Oculus version.

The current beta does not show any files or linked folders at all, although the latest official version was at least able to show the linked folders and also access the files within them as far as i can remember. But it also could not display single linked files.

Would it be possible to include a feature to work with symbolic linked files ?

Hello, I am testing beta 1.0.2. It immediately crashes, when scanning for SMB shares. Version 1.0.1 did the same. Let me know, if I can be of more assistance.

Yes.
After the crash, please connect your device to PC and send us (contact@skybox.xyz) the log file that located in:
Android/Data/xyz.skybox.player/Files/PersistentData/OutLogs.txt
SKYBOX/SKYBOX_debug_log.txt
We then could analyze the file and see what's going wrong.

The beta does not really load with my Quest 2, I get just a black screen with a visual guardian. I tried to re-install it, reset the view and unfortunately there are no log-files (I think because the app does not technically crash). Any idea what I could try?

Please send us an email at contact@skybox.xyz and share with us your Oculus registered email. I will need to remove you from the beta testing and see if the store version 1.0.1 works for you.
