  • Framerate stuttering on 4K video

Some new new 360 footage we shot is having some really bad framerate issues on Skybox on the Mirage Solo (Daydream). The videos uses H.264 codec with 3840x1920 resolution. We tried changing the bitrate several times, ranging between 10.000 and 80.000 kbps with the same issues occuring.

At average the framerate is at 2-3 fps. The videos should be playing in 25 fps. They play nicely on the computer but as soon it is transferred to Skybox the stuttering occurs. We have older 360 videos with the same resolution and a bitrate of 40.000 which play just fine. What could be the cause of these issues?

    Sorry for the late reply!
Would you please share with us the detailed info of your new videos please (a screenshot would be great)?
Or if possible please share with us your video at support@skybox.xyz so we could try it on our side.

BTW, we discontinued support on Daydream...

    Thanks.

      Hi Yum
We do not have tools for taking screenshots on the mirage pro, I have instead sent a detailed list of specs to the email you just shared, hope this helps.
The videos are for private use in the healthcare sector.

        Hi Vetle,

Didn't receive your email... Would you please check?
        Thanks.

          Hello Vetle VRossland ,
Will you kindly update this thread? I am following this problem for a solution closely.

          Ty.

I personally, am not experiencing what VRossland is, however, my friend who lives close to me is so that is why I'm following this thread for them as they're not as technical as I am.

              The email is sent now.

I wrote the email last week and thought it had been sent, however my email was broken and didn't send the mail. I repaired my email today and the mail got automatically sent. Sorry for the inconvenience.

              Specs:
              File type: mp4
Bitrate: Tried several: 10.000 to 80.000, current videos have 50.000
              Resolution: 3840 x 1920
              Length: 9 minutes
              Frame rate: 25 fps
              Codec: H.264
Size: 3 GB (tried different file sizes, from 1 GB to 6 GB)

              Audio:
Bit rate: 188kbps (tried lowering this as well, no luck)
              Stereo
              Audio sample rate: 48 kHz

We used Davinci Resolve to edit the videos and a GoPro 360 degree camera to record.

Running developer mode, Skybox runs at 60-80 fps while the videos play between 3 to 8 fps.

From the details you provide, we don't really have a clue of what could go wrong.
Especially given that your older files with the same setting play without an issue.
Have you tried transfer this video to H265 one? It may help.

We appreciate if you could share with us the video so we could test it on our side.

                  Yum
We just transferred the footage to H.265 and it solved the issue, it now plays smoothly at 25 fps.
However with the workflow we have established it is cumbersome to transfer to H.265 so if we could make them play correctly as H.264 files that would be the best option.

We can't send the full clip but I have cut out a 20 second portion of it which I will send it to you over mail in just a moment.
