X265 support?

Hey guys, will be getting 4K X265 support? plex streams 4K X265 to my phone with no issues and its absolutely stunning, could we get this support since app allready supports X264 4K videos.

Hi kobe6458,

I think we do support H265 currently.
I am assuming you haven't tried it through SKYBOX yet? Why don't you try it first and let me know if it appears wrong? :)

Andy H265 is absolutely not supported on Skybox. They won't even link. When you select "open folder", all files that are H264 will appear with a thumbnail image. The H265 files will appear broken.

SKYBOX PC version supports H265 4K playback, but Daydream and Gear VR versions may have some performance issues.
But H264 4K will not be a problem. Recently we will launch a proprietary format that will solve this problem.

So X265 will be added to it? Note 5 has no issues with over heating atleast when I direct streamed it from plex to the phone and it looks amazing with 4K X265.

The reason why I ask, all the new movies that are comign online are X265 and only Netflix stuff is 4K h264.

Pumel, could X265 be added anyways? I dont even have any issues streaming 4K X265, its up to the user to know if its going to overheat their phones. For note 5 and up should be fine works fine for me. THere are some films that are only in X265 HEVC 4K format and I want to watch them in the cinema.

oh and andy, no it does not suppor X265 through the software and or plexex over.

Can I also request x265 software support in the Steam version? My current video card does not support HEVC hardware decoding (GTX970), but my CPU is more than powerful enough to handle it. I can watch HEVC in all other media players, but it crashes SKYBOX.

I don't know what hardware you are using, but here everything plays back smoothly.

using Quest-1
- x.265 HDR mkvs are playing back from a network drive without stuttering
- same using virtual desktop against a desktop pc with a RTX-2070 gpu.

maybe you should have a look at the media-info of your files....................
