  • GO controller - zoom reset in VR

On the Oculus GO controller, we can zoom with swipe up or down on the touchpad; and skip forward or back with swipe right and swipe left. That is all good.

When I swipe right or left to skip, Skybox often also sees this as zoom in or out; it skips forward or back but also changes the zoom in an unwanted manner. Presumably this is because it is very difficult to perform a swipe which has zero vertical component.

It would be really nice if we could reset the zoom by means of a simple gesture on the controller, such as a touchpad single click. I find I get unintentional zoom just about every time I skip forward or back.

Other controller-based resets would be useful too. They could correspond to the complete orientation settings (tilt, height, zoom) - perhaps a touchpad double click to reset that whole group, or hold trigger and click touchpad. Just now, I don't think there is a controller gesture for height either. It would be useful, say hold the trigger and swipe touchpad up or down.

And maybe reset the 3D offset by a touchpad left click or right click.

Or you could use a holding down the Oculus button to do any of those. At present, holding the Oculus button shows the white rotating circle but it has no effect on the display.

I know these can all be reset on the menu panel but it very much destroys immersiveness when you have to navigate and scroll through menus to do it.

Further, on the Controller features, it would be really great if you could document them somewhere where users would easily find them. They don't seem to be mentioned in any help file that can be easily accessed. It would be great to have them listed in a panel that we could click, like the global settings panel. There could be a button to click on the files panel for example as this is visible as soon as Skybox opens. It could say "Help" or something similar. At the moment, one only finds these great features by accident. For example, it was a while before I discovered tilt and rotate via holding the trigger and moving the controller. And how many people know that you access the global settings by looking upwards and that we can there alter the number of seconds for skip forward and back?

DeoVR has a feature where you can map functions to gestures of your choice - it would be great if it worked but it doesn't! Maybe you could do something like that in the future (preferably one that works!).

I would post this as a "feature" but clicking the feature tag on this forum displays "it looks like there are no discussions here". It seems nobody posts anything into feature requests!

Sorry for the late reply. Recently we are very short-handed.

Honestly with the Quest coming up and the new controllers with more buttons, we would consider to map more features on the buttons. But with Go, the choice are very limited.
We are also considering the option to let users customize the functions on the controllers but it still under discussion.

Regarding the "help" feature that you mentioned, a tutorial you could call it up whenever you want it.
We will definitely do this but not sure about the ETD.

As previously mentioned, we truly are a small team with many tasks on hand right now.
    Please be patient with us.

Thank you very much for your support.

      Customization would be great.

In the meantime I think a simpler solution would be to have zoom be assigned to actually clicking on the top or bottom of the trackpad rather than swiping. The trackpad also functions as a four way button when you press at the corners. This is more precise. Zoom should be assigned to vertical button presses rather than swiping so they don't get mixed up as I have the same issue as well with the accidental vertical swipes.

Additionally, pressing the right and left should also skip forward just like swiping sideways. When you want to do many skips in a row it gets annoying to have to swipe over and over.

If you are talking about the Go controller, then we could not add the option to click instead of swipe.
Right now all the clicking gesture would trigger the play panel.
We will consider other UI/UX with regards of this function.

Thanks for the reply. I will always be patient with you. Yours is still the best VR video app of all those that I have tried.

It is a pity that there is no way to use clicks as truth1ness suggested. That looked like a great idea.

Well, we will need to check how we can improve this UI/UX and test how users would react.
It's a matter of time and we are definitely going to work harder to improve the overall experience of SKYBOX.
