  • [Beta 0.2.2] Issues and Suggestions

Hi

Thanks for the latest beta release skybox keeps improving in every release. Here are my initial issues and suggestions.

Issues:

  1. 4k 60fps videoframe rate is dropping to roughly 51-58 fps when changing global frame rate to 60 in settings. Default 72 is a little more consistent between 55-60fps.

  2. When watching 360/180 videos the "Reset to view" button seems to only re-center left to right. When laying down looking at ceiling it needs also to recenter vertically. Please add vertical recenter also.

A toggle setting for allowing the re-centering of the home screen and cinema environment when laying down would be a nice feature for a future release.

Suggestions:

  1. Add battery percentage beside the battery icon as it is difficult to tell exactly how much battery is left with only the battery icon displayed.

  2. The global 60fps setting is good when watching content that has videoframe rate of 30/60fps. While watching 24fps content makes sense to have setting back to default 72. It would be nice to have quick access to the global 60 fps toggle button somewhere in the play panel settings to switch quickly while viewing 60fps and 24fps content.

Or even better if skybox could automatically choose the best global framerate based on the currently playing videoframe rate.

video frame rate: 30/60 = Global 60fps
video frame rate: 24 = Global 72fps

I will test more and see if i spot anything else.

Thanks again

I just updated to 0.2.2(179) Skybox in Oculus-Go.
But I cannot see "Global Setting" button.

    Do you have another verion?
Or, Could you tell me how to find "Global Setting" button
    in 0.2.2(179) Skybox.

    thanks

On Oculus Go beta 0.2.2 I notice that if bring up the video controls (brightness, zoom, etc.) and use the touch pad to scroll through the panel controls, it also zooms the video.

The touch pad zoom control feature should be disabled when the video control panel is brought up.

qtam It's in a small panel on the top of the internal video file browser shows up when the pointer is hovering over the browser main panel, look for the cog wheel at the right, with the battery level indicator on the left.

Sorry, I cannot see "Global Control" button in 0.2.2(179).
          Do you have 0.2.2(179) version?

I don't understand why they made it difficult to find the "Global Control Setting" button.

At first, I searched "Global Control Setting" bitton in "Advaced Setting" button.
But there were no "Global Control Setting" menu.

qtam Yes, I have the 0.2.2(179) Go version. It's not while you're playing the videos, the control to choose it fades in at the top of the main video selector window when the pointer is in the window.

I can see the global control button when I first enter the beta application, but after rebooting my Go, the global button appears and fade out very quickly (like about 1s) but it is still clickable, just invisible.

Also it would be nice to add the feature for holding trigger to adjust 360 videos, this feature works fine on 180 videos but not on 360.

                Oh! my God!
I finally found that "Global Control Button" in main search window.

It cannot be seen when you play-back something.
It only shows their tiny appearance when nothing is played-back.

It located in the center and uppermost location of main search window when I really smoothly and very very cautiously hover the Oculus-Go controller.
As you said, I rebooted Oculus-Go, so, it was almost impossible to find the really small "Global Control Button".
It's size is so small comparing with other characters, so, most people cannot find if they reboot Oculus-Go.

Finding "Global Contro Button" is like a puzzle-Game.

And even after I changed the "Global Control Setting", I cannot make the button appear easily.
You have to be very patient to see the "Global Control Button".
I really shocked that how difficult they made to find this "Global Contro Button" .
Skybox has to fix this problem.

Sorry I didn't explain it clear in the email.

Actually you just need to look up (lift your head up) and focus your eyesight on the upper half of the middle tab in the main hall then the Global Setting button will appear and stick.
Once you move away your eyesight the Global Setting will disappear.
This is the same UI as when you look down in the main hall and at some point you will see a "Reset View" button.

The reason why we don't stick the Global Setting to the main hall is that Global Setting is a supplementary function which could be used not as frequently as other function.

                  Cheers,

Thank you for pointing this out.
We will fix it in the next beta release.

Thank you for the detailed feedback.

We are looking into this. Thank you for pointing it out.

When watching 360/180 videos the "Reset to view" button seems to only re-center left to right. When laying down looking at ceiling it needs also to recenter vertically. Please add vertical recenter also.

The "Reset View" button is actually for "Reset the theatre to the sitting position". We did not change this setting in this version.
Instead, we changed the "Click here to reset view" which appear when you watch videos in Void and watch 180 videos and look away from the screen.

Add battery percentage beside the battery icon as it is difficult to tell exactly how much battery is left with only the battery icon displayed.

There are five battery status and you will notice the change every time the battery drops below 80%/60%/40%/20%.

It would be nice to have quick access to the global 60 fps toggle button somewhere in the play panel settings to switch quickly while viewing 60fps and 24fps content.

We will check how we can improve this.

                      Thanks again for your support!

                        4 days later

                        .

Yum Instead, we changed the "Click here to reset view" which appear when you watch videos in Void and watch 180 videos and look away from the screen.

                        Thanks for reply.

The click to reset view in 180 videos doesn't center correctly when laying down.

Having to look way up to the top of the 180 video for the option to appear is not feasible when laying down. And when you do click on it the video is not centered when you move your head back down to center.

A must better option is to use the reset view button to automatically recenters 360/180 video without have to move your head.

As an example to see how it works you can download the free media app pigasus vr lite player from oculus store. Open a 360/180 video and lay down then click the reorientate view button which correctly switches video to your center view point.

Thanks again for your continued work
