Selecting a 'poster frame' / 'thumbnail' for video

Hi.

I recently downloaded SKYBOX to Meta Quest 3, and very impressed with it for viewing videos stored on the Quest and also via Network access to my Macbook Air (using app version 1.1.9-564).

The only minor issue - I'd like to set a 'poster frame' or 'thumbnail' for my videos, so the video content is more obvious when browsing in the SKYBOX app.

Thankfully came across this forum and realised 1. I'm not the only person trying to do this, and 2. it's something SKYBOX devs are working on.

Unfortunately I'm unable to get the suggested 'fix' to work.

I followed the support info below, using an MP4 and also a JPG with the SAME NAME (other than extensions):

and tried with files stored locally (on the quest) and also on the Mac via Network.

In both cases I see the video (MP4) with a frame from mid-point of the clip as a thumbnail, and the JPG photo in the SKYBOX browser.

Anyone with a similar set up able to guide me toward getting this working?

Hello,

I'm sorry that AirScreen v1.1.9-564 doesn't support custom thumbnails. So there's no way to add custom thumbnails to the files added to AirScreen(SKYBOX Mac Client).

For the files stored on Quest local storage, SKYBOX should display the custom thumbnails. If SKYBOX doesn't detect the custom thumbnails, you can click SKYBOX's "Global Settings" and click the "Reset" button to do a factory reset and see if it helps.

Selecting a poster frame or thumbnail for a video involves choosing a still image that best represents the content. It should be visually may be appealing, relevant and enticing to attract viewers and encourage clicks.

Hi Lucy.

Custom thumbnail being a JPG with same file name as the MP4? I did also try adding one into the MP4 using Filmora. Works in MacOS file manager - but not in SKYBOX.

Where can I find SKYBOX’s “Global Settings” to reset?

Lastly, just updated to v2.0 (preview) - are there any changes within which affect thumbnails?

How did you play the video, from local storage, or via SMB, DLNA or AirScreen?

You can restart SKYBOX app or click the "gear" icon to open "Global Settings" to do a factory reset.

I'm playing the video from local storage, and have managed to get the thumbnails/poster frame working by renaming the files once they're copied onto the Quest using 'XR Native Android File Manager'.

From what I can tell, SKYBOX had renamed the .MP4 files AND created a correspondingly named .JPG file with (what looks like) the middle frame of the video clip. I deleted this .JPG and replace it with what I wish to be the thumbnail / poster frame.
