Cannot play Samba network files

Skybox v 1.1.4-quest cannot find various samba network files. Older version played them ok. Now I get file not found message.

Which SMB server or SMB version are you using? If you're using SMB1, we'll release a fixed version to enhanced stability.

I am using a Zappiti 4k HDR player. In the settings there is just an option to enable SMB or disable it. There is no version number associated. However when I went into advanced settings using Openwrt, I found a template which said “Max Protocol = SMB2”. It is possible to edit this line to change the SMB2 to something else. I haven’t done it cos not sure what effect would be.
I can see all files which are accessed by Zappiti on 2 separate HD’s. However when I try to play one I get the file not found message after a long delay with a spinning zero on screen. Eventually it will find a file it can play after stepping down the directory. Hope this helps.
There also seems to be DNLA problem. I managed to set Zappiti as a DNLA Server and I could then access and play files that couldn’t be played via SMB. However after I powered down all systems and re-powering them up I could not see The DNLA connection to Zappiti any more. No idea what is happening, no matter what I tried could not get DNLA connection to Skybox back again.
I should add that between using the older version ov Skybox system was also using previous software version of Quest 2.
I hadn’t used quest for a couple of weeks so when I put it on a couple of days ago there was a quest update as well as the Skybox update.
All problems have occurred after these updates.
Hope you can suggests some means of sorting problems out as I prefer to watch movies via quest rather than on the tv. You get a much better experience.

Thank you for your reply.

We just released a new version 1.1.4(1630), which enhanced SMB stability. You can switch to the "v1.1.4: Release: 1.1.4" channel and see whether the SMB issue has been fixed.

Here're the steps to switch channel:

Visit SKYBOX VR Player product detail page with browser or Meta Quest mobile app. (Make sure you login to your Facebook/Meta account)
Find "Version + Release Notes" and select "v1.1.4: Release: 1.1.4"
Uninstall and reinstall SKYBOX on your Quest.

You can click SKYBOX's Global Settings and turn on Show FPS to check the version number. Let us know whether the SMB issue has been fixed in the new version.

If the problem still remains, we hope you can go to SKYBOX's Global Settings, change the Logging Levels to "INFO", reproduce the SMB and DLNA issue, then click the BUG icon in the upper-right corner of Global Settings, and send us a bug report attached with logs(tick the "upload logs" box).

Have done a lot of testing over last couple of days. Firstly let me explain the network system I use.
A virgin media hub gives me high speed WiFi on its own, but in order to make it more secure it is linked via Ethernet cable to a google mesh WiFi which allows whole house to be covered.
Additionally an Ethernet cable from the hub is connected to an Ethernet hub which connects various pieces of other equipment into the network. This includes tv, Blu-ray player and includes the Zappiti media player. It is possible to switch the Zappiti player between Ethernet connections and WiFi, in addition I can link it into either the google mesh or into the virgin hub WiFi.
Similarly with the quest 2, this can be connected to either google mesh or virgin WiFi.
Normally the system I favour is the Zappiti connected via Ethernet cable and everything else to the google mesh. This allows me high speed transfer of files from iPad to hard disks connected to the Zappiti. I can either use iPad WiFi, or iPad connected to Ethernet hub.
Ok, now to the testing. New SMB version of Skybox was installed. When connected to mesh, still had same problems, mostly couldn’t play files, could see them but that was all. Occasionally it would play a file that previously it couldn’t.
Best system was when everything was connected directly via WiFi to the virgin hub. A definite improvement, but not 100%.
It must be noted that I created both an SMB connection and a DLNA connection with a couple of configurations. Using DLNA everything worked 100%. When using SMB - Problems.

I have now sorted everything out so I now can use Skybox with no problems.
This was by junking the Zappiti player and replacing it with a Zidoo Z9X player.
This player supports SMB 1/2/3.

Hope what I have done helps you and possibly other Skybox users to overcome similar problems.
I have now just 1 question. Do I leave the Skybox version as is, or do I replace it with the 1.1.4-quest version as what I started with.

Please keep using this version ("v1.1.4 Release :1.1.4"). You don't need to change to other versions before the next version 1.1.5 is out.
