Custom Thumbnails

We are going to make custom thumbnail easier to set and not make you guys figuring out a workaround any more.

As for the description page, Netflix actually has information for every video that is on Netflix, and has a need to introduce the movie to its audience. However, SKYBOX does not possess the information for the videos you put into your device, and I think it is safe to assume that you will know what the videos are once you choose to put them into your device.
So I don't think we are going to or able to make a detailed description page for videos like Netflix at this point.
Once we start to work on online videos, we might do this kind of preview pages, because by then we will have the information and it will be necessary to let the viewers know what they are going to watch.

Sure, this feature would make more sence if Skybox offer online movies/videos and since VR-User watch thier videos alone they know the movies. But in my opinion this kind of feature (like e.g. Netflix) would improved the App a lot. Not at this time, I agree, but in the near future this kind of preview should be in the App even for custom Videos (selfmade Info).

I mean, there are a lot of apps and programms how does thier (technical) job very well, but only a few are exceptionally good in looking and handling. And the SkyboxVR App has this potential to get one of these. In my view, you guys are in a position to make a big deal in the VR-World.

It does not fit the topic and I do not know if you like to talk about it, but has ever approached an investor to sell online content on your app?

Hi, are there plans to support custom thumbnails for the Skybox VR player for Oculus? We find that the Oculus Go is great for sending out to people to see demos, and it would be great to have custom thumbnails for the videos. Even if it's done by reading a separate file that's in the same place where the movies are stored, that would be great.

Yum Hello, I am using Skybox to access VR and movie files on my NAS, via my Pixel3XL and Daydream Headset. Many have titles/filenames that by default, you can't really tell what the content is with the goggles or the name is so long that (for example) the file title may only be partially visible in list mode or in grid mode especially, so you can't see that it is episode 1, 2, 3 etc. This is componded particularly in VR as it tends to take a thumbnail of the movie at a random point, but because they are VR, you are seeing a virtually mirror of the same part of the movie (which creates the stereoscopic effect/3d) This makes it even harder to tell as it halves the size. Nearly all the files come with a cover image thumbnail with an identical name in the folder.
E.G The Black Widow.mpg and The Black Widow.jpg
In other browsers this file is automatically the cover/thumbnail, and you can see the box cover clearly as a single image. Your app does not do this at all. It appears you have been developing a feature that would detect an image as a thumbnail as per the above thread..any news on release yet?

We have added this feature to SKYBOX. However, in the future we will not release new updates on Daydream.

This is genuinely very disappointing, I think your app was great and I really enjoyed using it, this was a relatively minor impact, but I thought a useful feature. I am surprised you have thrown in the towel citing bad reviews, but i think that's just the nature of reviews of restaurants, hotels, apps, films. People have very little context or only think in black and white, it's good or it's bad.
I guess there is no point imploring you to bring it back as I have moved to a Pixel 4 XL and I am even more frustrated with Google for not supporting the Daydream platform on there

Hi Yum,

Could you please let us know how to add a custom thumbnail to a movie please. I have tried adding a .jpg with the same name as the movie and added the image to the movies folder / picture folder / skybox folder...

The image doesn't over-write the video thumbnail (trying to add the movie poster so the gallery looks good when choosing a movie.

I have also installed a tag editor (mac: Subler) and updated the MP4 Tag artwork with the movie poster. The thumbnail of the video in mac finder directory has updated and if I drag that to my oculus quest movie folder, I can see the movie in Skybox but the artwork is still the default whatever photo of some part of the movie...

The custom thumbnail is still a temporary solution and we have already confirmed there is a bug related to this.
We will develop this feature in the next release on Quest/Go.

The thumbnail generation tends to crash the app for me on large folders - Could we also have a menu option to just disable the thumbnail generation entirely?

What VR device do you use please?
If the app crashes, then it's possible that in the large folder you have some "invalid" video files, meaning corrupted or still-downloading videos.

Is there a way to update the video thumbnail images yet? I use Subler on my mac to update the custom thumbnail of my videos which I can see in Oculus Gallery and many other apps including Plex, but doesn't show in Skybox.

Is there an update for this coming soon?

I create and save a lot of custom artwork to my media files which show nicely inside the media selection window on many VR video player apps and Plex etc, except for Skybox. Is this feature coming for Skybox?

I have some cover art for my video files, basically jpg´s with the same name. I would love to se them show on oculus quest 2. I use videos over the network.

Hi there,

If the image is less than 200KB, you should be able to view it as the preview thumbnail when watching from Oculus storage.

However, this feature is not supported with Network files now.
