I'm just upscaling my 360-3D-video collection with Topaz Video AI and unfortunately with my Quest 2:
- 8192x4320 (slightly over 35 million pixels) is the highest resolution I was able to play back with HEVC (encoded with nvEnc), but I would like to achieve more.
- Interestingly, choosing any other resolution, like 6000x5800, I have to stay under 35 million pixels for the playback to work, 5940x5940 doesn't work, even though it has less pixels than 8192x4320.
- 8192x6144 is possible with H264, but no HW encoder is able to encode that resolution in that format, and x264 takes ages, also the video stutters when playing it back, even though it is crisper of course.
Based on my calculations, the screen of the Quest 2 could be fully uitilzed by 8192x6144 or slightly more, so that would be awesome.
Is there any other limitation in HEVC I don't know about? Does the maximum resolution have to do wih some encoding parameters?
