I'm adding this as a new topic, because I think it may have been overlooked when I added it to the bottom of an existing thread. I'm not quite sure how to tag this, but I assume it's a bug.
I am using the Steam version of Skybox and I have a video card which does not support HEVC hardware decoding, the GTX 970. I am sure there are others. Whenever I attempt to play an HEVC video file it will freeze Skybox, requiring a force quit, occasionally a few frames might play, but everything is unresponsive. As this only happens with HEVC videos, I assume it must be to do with the lack of hardware decoding.
However, I have a CPU which is more than capable of playing HEVC files and they work fine in just about any other media player.
For the record, I had the same trouble playing HEVC videos in VLC, but disabling HW decoding fixed it.
I have to say that I really like Skybox, compared to all its competition, but considering most of my videos are stored in HEVC, it's making it fairly unusable for me at the moment.
TLDR;
Please add support for CPU HEVC decoding.
Please add support for failing gracefully when a file can't be played.
