Support for Network Filesystems planned?

I'm curious if there are any plans to add the ability to use network sources such as SMB/CIFS/Samba, FTP(S), SFTP, etc.

I'm quite pleased with the addition of DLNA, but it would be really nice to be able to just peruse through a filesystem rather than ensuring it is included in the DLNA index. Is there any plans for such a thing on the roadmap?

Thanks for getting in touch with us.
I have just confirmed with our software engineer that we do not have plan for adding FTP/SFTP support to our application.
But we are currently evaluating the possibility of adding SMB/CIFS/Samba.
May I ask what is the platform/system/device you use Samba with?

The problem is that with smb (windows) you get slow transfer speeds between PC to android devices. Ftp is much faster. And NFS is even better.

Hi Mik,

The reason we are not supporting FTP/NFS is because this is already a supported feature by windows itself.

You can setup your PC as a media streaming source by going through: Network Settings -> Sharing Options -> All Networks -> Media Streaming -> Choose media streaming options, and turn on the streaming option.

Then make sure your pc is connected under the same wifi as your mobile device, and you can stream through the Network option in SKYBOX.

The media folder might be empty at first, but you can add videos to it on your PC by selecting your own PC in Network (under Media Devices) , which will open up the Windows Media Player, and you can select/open the folders containing your movies in the Windows Media Player. Then they will show up when you try to access your PC from you mobile device through the Network option.

Yes i know, that is the Windows itegrated dlna server. If you plan to support SMB please try to implement a version better than SMBv1.

Yes, this would be a wonderful thing to have.

My current solution is to run a local webserver. I've written scripts to index the videos I have on my NAS, generate thumbnails, and display everything as a "gallery" on a webpage. The thumbnails in the gallery page link directly to the video files via HTTP.

The problem, of course, is that I'm limited to Oculus Browser or Samsung VR's browser. I can't use Skybox, which is superior in my opinion.
