Thumbnail Generation only at Home Screen

Thumbnails only appear to be generated when you are scrolling through a folder while at the home screen (the virtual room). If you are playing a video, and go to the browser to select a new video, if the thumbnail was not previously generated at the home screen, no thumbnail is generated. This means if you want to select a new video while you are currently watching one based on the thumbnail, you will only see the thumbnails that you have force generated from the home screen by slowly scrolling through a folder there.

Does anyone know how to force thumbnail generation from the player screen so you don't have to pre-generate thumbnails from the home screen?

We apologize for the inconvenience.

Currently SKYBOX does not load thumbnails while a video is playing. We understand this may affect your browsing experience, and we will try improving thumbnail loading speed in a future update.

In the meantime, you can switch to beta version and quickly locate a video by using the search by filename feature. This should help you find what you are looking for more effectively.

On your Quest 2 or Quest 3, go to Quest Settings > Privacy & safety > Installed app > find SKYBOX VR Video Player > click Release Channels > select "2.0.0 Preview" and install the update.
