Hi! I manage my media library with Emby. While using SKYBOX 2.0.2 on Quest 3, I ran into several issues.
I really appreciate the new direct Emby login feature in v2.0.2. The feedback below is based on two usage modes: direct Emby connection and DLNA.
Posters: cropping via direct Emby; slow/failed loading via DLNA
1.1 Direct Emby: very fast loading, but posters are forced/cropped to portrait with no option to change
When connecting to Emby directly, the poster wall loads extremely fast. However, posters are forced into a portrait-style layout (cropped), and there’s no option to change the aspect ratio. This is very frustrating for libraries that mainly use landscape posters.
1.2 DLNA: acceptable aspect ratio, but poster loading is very slow and many images fail to load
When accessing the library via DLNA, posters are forced into a landscape ratio, which is acceptable for my VR library, since most VR titles—both Japanese and Western—primarily use landscape posters.
But images load very slowly, and many posters fail to load at all. The same library loads extremely fast via direct Emby connection.
My VR library is about 30TB with 2800 videos. I noticed that when the cache shown in SKYBOX settings approaches around 100MB, DLNA poster loading becomes significantly slower. This does not happen with direct Emby connection.
Cannot play multi-part “CD1/CD2” movies (both Direct Emby and DLNA)
Because VR movie files are often very large, many downloads are split into parts like -cd1 and -cd2. In Emby, this works well: I can select each part, and it can continue from cd1 to cd2 automatically. However, in SKYBOX (both via DLNA and direct Emby connection), this multi-part format isn’t handled correctly—only cd1 can be played.
Temporary workaround (with a major downside):
I changed the filename suffix from -cd to -ep via my scraper settings. This prevents Emby from merging the parts into a single movie entry, so I can select and play cd1/cd2 in SKYBOX.
Downside: one movie becomes multiple entries, which makes the poster wall messy and cluttered.
Poster wall viewing experience: posters are too small, and the wall cannot be brought closer
The default poster size feels too small. It’s tiring to view details (and the posters also look compressed, making it harder).
The poster wall distance cannot be adjusted. It would help a lot if users could move the wall closer / zoom in using the joystick or side buttons.
Playback settings cannot be saved as default (need presets / “remember settings”)
Every time I start playback, I have to repeat the same steps:
Select “Auto” (or 180° SBS) in one menu
Switch to another menu and enable “single-eye mode”
I’d like a preset / remember settings feature so these options can be applied automatically for future playback. Also, would it be possible to auto-detect modes based on keywords in filenames or metadata? (I can batch re-scrape to add keywords if needed.)
Overall, SKYBOX is the best player I’ve found on Quest for both Emby and DLNA (especially the search experience). I hope you can consider improving the issues above to make it even better. Thank you!
