I’m experiencing consistent frame pacing issues with local files on my Meta Quest 3, even though the same app version (2.0.0), same files, and same settings work perfectly on my girlfriend’s Meta Quest 3S.
Symptoms:
• On Quest 3 → playback never goes over 75 fps, with periodic frame drops every 20 seconds.
• On Quest 3S → the same file plays perfectly smooth, locked at 120 fps (verified via Stats overlay).
• Tested with local files only (copied to headset storage) → issue is not network-related.
• “Show Stats” always reports:
•
• Pipeline: COMPLEX
• ResolutionScale: 1.2 (minimum available)
• Pro-HD: True
• FPS fluctuating on Quest 3, locked on Quest 3S.
•
What I tried:
• Global refresh rates: 72 Hz, 90 Hz, 120 Hz → no change.
• Disabling anti-aliasing, presentation mode, extras.
• Reducing screen size.
• Different file formats (HEVC/H.265 10-bit MKV and H.264 MP4).
Conclusion:
• The issue seems specific to Quest 3 + Skybox 2.0 pipeline, likely due to the forced ResolutionScale ≥ 1.2 combined with higher native resolution on Quest 3 vs Quest 3S.
• 4XVR plays the same files smoothly on Quest 3, which rules out hardware limits.
Could you please confirm if this is a known bug on Quest 3?
Is there a plan to allow ResolutionScale = 1.0 again (or optimize the Complex pipeline) so Quest 3 can match Quest 3S performance?
