Vive controller doesn't work anymore

Hello, after the recent update, my VIVE controller doesn't work anymore in Skybox. Can't find a way to activate it or revert back the option for the controller. Pls help.

Hello, sorry for the inconvenience! Are you using HTC VIVE controllers? If possible, please tell us the exact VR headset and controller type.

At present the only way for some limited control is using a white dot in the center of the FOV + mouse click. As you can imagine it's extremely inconveinient. It is as Skybox does not register the VIVE controller is turned on. At the same time pressing the menu button on the controller calls up the steam control menu and in there I can pretty much use all functions normally, meaning the controller works as it should.

FYI the controller was working fine within Skybox, until a recently released update.

Sorry for the inconvenience! We're investigating the problem. Do you use Virtual Desktop to stream SKYBOX? Or do you launch SKYBOX directly from SteamVR?

If possible, we hope you can tell us the detailed steps to reproduce the controller issue. We've tested a lot but haven't reproduced the problem yet. We must missed something important.

About controller not working, we update a fixed version in Beta channel. Could you please switch to the Beta channel and have a try?

To switch to the Beta channel, please follow the steps below:

Right-click the “SKYBOX VR Video Player” in your Steam library and select “Properties”. (If you can't find SKYBOX in library, please search it in the search bar)
Click the “BETAS” tab, and select the “beta - beta branch” from the dropdown list to switch to the beta channel. You will see "SKYBOX VR Video Player [beta]" in your library list now.

I first open Varjo Software to activate the headset. Then I activate the controller (recognized in the Varjo Software). Then I launch SKYBOX through SteamVR (it's purchased through Steam). Please note that all other Steam VR applications do recognise the controller normally.

Within SKYBOX I don't see the outline of the controller nor the "pointer", nor any of the controller commands work. Only when pressing the "menu" button of the controller it opens the Steam VR menu where the controller operates normally. In the the Steam VR menu I tried switching the controller configuration from "default" to manual, where I could sellect some legacy binding uploaded by another user (in 2019). This action did not change anything. Controller remaining non working within SKYBOX. Default option is called something like SKYBOX Beta and it is not working.
Please note that I have used SKYBOX with the same controller normally up to about a year ago when some system changes were made, then the controller behaved differently (specifially the pointer) but I was still able to use SKYBOX normally. Two updates ago (probably 2 months ago) the update made the controller useless.

Please check your SteamVR status. If your controller icons are greyed out, you may not be able to use your controllers. Please make sure your controller icons are in color mode.

What's more, we noticed that if you haven't done SteamVR Room-Setup, your controllers may not work. Please check out the link to launch SteamVR on your PC, and run Room Setup.

We'll keep looking into the problem.

Hello, my VIVE controller doesn't work when playing video in Skybox. Can't find a way to activate it or revert back the option for the controller. The Beta channel doesn't work. Will there be an update to fix the problem?
My VR set is VIVE XR Elite, and my SteamVR version is 2.4.4. Help!!!

We tested VIVE controller but didn't reproduce the issue.

Do you have other controllers connected to your PC? Please unplug other controllers or Xbox controllers and see if it helps.

If the problem still remains, we hope you can share with us(contact@skybox.xyz) the Log folder in C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\SKYBOX VR Video Player\PersistentData\Log.

I have the same issue on HTC Vive Cosmos.

I downgraded and tested every version available and the last working version is v1.0.1 so I am sticking to this one.

All available versions after this have the bug where the controllers are not working:
