Hi!
During active SKYBOX usage I've found some UX problems which always drive me nuts.
I'll try to describe them here.
- When I try to close the UI controls by pressing the Quest 2 controller button, this often leads not to closing, but — opposite — to reopening. Since opening and closing UI controls happen with some noticeable delay, when I click to close the controls, they have time to autoclose and reopen again (as if I clicked to open them, not to close them). It's a very often and annoying behavior.
1.1. Here I cannot understand the purpose of this delay. Did you enable it to distinguish clicking from dragging the VR video view? But that's not fundamentally necessary — for example, OSes (like Windows, etc.) can perfectly distinguish clicking from dragging without any delays in clicking. Or maybe there's another reason for these delays?
1.2. Other problem here is autohiding UI controls. This is not always handy. It would be nice to have the ability to show / hide them always manually to fully control it. Maybe some option to have one or another behavior (autohide or show / hide them manually)? I completely understand arguments for not inflating app's settings with many options, but this short UI showing interval (when you want the controls persist on the screen), or showing controls instead of hiding when you click the controller button. This is just annoying behavior you just can't get rid of.
- Often, very often, when I want to show the controls and accurately press the controller button, video sphere dragging happens instead of controls showing. I believe there's some problem of dragging and clicking detection and differentiation algorithm. Or maybe it is not optimal.
My frequent case: clicking to see the controls — dragging happens. Ok, second attempt, more accurate. Dragging again. One more attempt with super accuracy. Again dragging. And one of the next clicks leads to long awaited controls.
- When I want to rewind the video to about the middle, I often get a non-transparent hint of my battery percentage under my pointer, which successfully overlaps the rewind bar, and you just can't rewind. This is incredibly annoying as well 🙂
Probably make it oriented to bottom instead of top. There's enough space. Or make it transprent for clicks.
P.S. One side, these problems sound like something not important enough. But in reality, it happens very often (for me, at least). Maybe it's easier to cope with these issues when you watch regular 2D / 3D video. But in VR these issues become more significant.
Thanks for your attention and good luck!
