So I tried out Brink Traveler on Quest 2 and was surprised at how much haptic feedback enhanced the experience of moving my hand along a canyon wall. Of course, the vibration does not prevent one from pushing one's hand past the image of the rock wall, but since the transparent "hands" stop at the wall, this is not perceived. I actually wish they would incorporate this into The Climb 2, because it is really, really cool.
The reason I am writing this is because it seems to me that is might be possible to program a vr video player like Skybox to a) detect the contours of objects that are, based on the parallax, within arm's reach of the viewer and b) provide haptic feedback when "touching" the object.
I actually got this idea when watching a VR 180 video of an up-close experience with a tiger. It would be amazing to be able to reach out and "pet" the tiger, right?
Anyway, I have no idea if this is even possible, but if it is, that would be awesome!
